Sterling Signature Die Cut Shakespeare

Sterling Signature Shakespeare

Introduction

This illustrated bibliography features several large hardcovers that include the full text of each Shakespeare play, along with notes, commentary and scholarly essays. They are beautifully illustrated with laser-cut paper designs, but they are consequently quite delicate and require careful handling. Some internal illustrations are provided below, and the full list with links to the books (which are sadly now out of print) is below.

Each volume in the Signature Shakespeare series includes:

  • Original paper-cut illustrations in the form of both laser tip-ins and scans. Paintings and photographs add depth to front and back matter.
  • Premier scholars introduce each play with contemporary scholarship. An essay on editing the text provides an in-depth look at the quartos and folios used in the edition.
  • Illustrated contextual essays on Shakespeare’s England, language, and life, along with essays on performing Shakespeare and significant performances, that frame the play in both historical and theatrical context for readers.
  • Non-intrusive notes and analysis including one-word margin definitions, facing-page glosses, and longer end notes after each play.
  • An annotated bibliography of titles, selected by the introduction author, provides a list of further reading.
