Hi Everyone,
I grew up in the Caribbean in very rural and poor circumstances in the 1980. There were kids in school who were fortunate enough to have the books of fairy tales and nursery rhymes and I would peek over their shoulders in awe of the illustrations by the Johnstone twins. A kindergarten teacher brought in the book of nursery rhymes once and I think she noticed my delight and made a point to show me the book during recess time while all the other kids were outside playing. Talk about lasting core memories. Anyway, moved to Canada at the age of 13 and grew up to become a successful children’s therapist in Toronto. Those illustrations made such an impression on me, I began searching them out about 15yrs ago. I now own about 40 original illustrations from the twins, including the Beauty and the Beast one above! One day I will take the time to post them on a website or maybe create a small gallery display for interested people to visit! Love seeing this community here. Wishing you all well.

I have a large framed painting by the two sisters of Hans Christian Andersen’ s Dreams done on foil effect. Do you know the date of the original painting? Many thanks.

I would love to know how many of their pieces were dufex printed – I’ve had ‘Mr Mole proposes to Thumbelina’ and ‘The Arrival of the Snow Queen’ since they were new (and in fact they were presents for my arrival in the world!) in the mid 80s.

Hello
I have been very lucky to purchase – on ebay, of all places, an original painting by Anne Grahame Johnstone. It is of a Fifer. Just a lone figure with no back ground. No history was known about this painting, just the date of when it was painted, 1974.
I would be interested to know if it is an illustration from one of her books, I only have a few and cannot see it in any of these.
My father used to trace the twins illustrations for me to colour when I was a child so i’m thrilled to own it!
Could I supply a photo somehow?
Thank you for your time, I hope you safe and well under the current circumstances.
Regards
Shelley

I received a lovely Anne Grahame Johnstone painting today, from eBay. Its titled “Mary finds the Secret Garden”. I’ve been collecting Grahame Johnstone books since the 1970’s. I was impressed by your database of all the books. You had one I’ve never seen, the “Tales from Animal Land”, and I’ve been looking out for the Olympic book, on and off for years! I have a few of their paintings, including the Woodcutter one, and some Bill and Ben pics.

Hi Anne! Apologies for the late response – there was an issue with my website alerting me to new comments. Your book and painting collection sounds wonderful – it’s so lovely to “meet” another collector! I could email you some scans from the Olympic book if you’d like? (I have only ever seen it in a library, I don’t have a copy myself either.) The images are in b&w, but it’s always so exciting to find new work! Someone posted on here that they were sure they had seen a Robin Hood book printed from the Finding Out magazines, but I’ve never seen that – have you? Warmest wishes, Dx
