Arcturus Collectible Myths & Legends
Arcturus Collectible Myths & Legends Series
Introduction
This series is published by Arcturus in the UK (‘Collectable’ Myths and Legends) and Sirius Entertainment in the US (‘Collectible’ Myths and Legends), with the first volumes being released in 2024. The books explore a tapestry of timeless myths and legends that form the bedrock of classical literature, and usually draw on hundred year old texts for the contents.
The books have ‘naked’ gold or silver embossed covers, full-color endpaper designs, ivory pages and striking stenciled page edges. In earlier volumes (Greek and Norse myths) the contents are adapted in accessible prose, but later volumes fall back on older texts that are out of copyright (usually retellings from the 1900s – for example the Aztec and Indian collections are based on the original 1912 Gresham Myth & Legends series).
Some cute black & white decorative marginalia livens up the text. They are standard sized hardbacks, measuring at 15.62 cm x 23.44cm (around 6″ x 9″).

Norse Myths and Legends: Tales and Sagas of the Gods and Heroes - Emilie K. Baker
Arcturus, November 2024, ISBN: 9781398844407 (US). 9781398846180 (UK).
Based on Stories from Northern Myths by Emilie Kip Baker (1914). It’s worth noting that Baker follows a common retelling tradition that conflates two Norse creation trios: Odin, Vili and Vé, who are Odin’s brothers in Snorri’s Prose Edda, and Odin, Hœnir and Lóðurr, who appear in the Poetic Edda account of the creation of the first humans.
“Stories of magic swords, treasure hoards and the legendary Valkyrie. And there is romance too, in the wooing of Brunhilde. The wicked Loki appears as well – and is punished for his misdeeds.”

Greek Myths and Legends: Tales of the Gods and Heroes of Ancient Greece - Emilie K. Baker
Arcturus, November 2024, ISBN: 9781398846104 (UK) | 9781398844179 (US)
Based on Stories of Old Greece and Rome by Emilie Kip Baker (1913), but (somewhat clumsily) edited to use the Greek names of the gods in place of the Romanised names in the original (which mixed Greek myth with Roman legend), and omitting the footnotes.
“Stories in this collection are drawn from a deep well of mythology, bringing the adventures and trials of characters like Perseus, Hercules, and Romulus to new generations.”
