2025 Meggendorfer Pop-Up Book Prize Finalists

Introduction

Every two years, the Movable Book Society honors the very best in paper engineering through its Meggendorfer Awards program. The winner for this year will be announced in September.

This year's winner is a study‑driven title with Mǎ Méngxīn’s glorious (but unfortunately rather expensive) Pop Up Books A to Z: From Structure to Design. (And double congrats to Ma, who also won the Emerging Paper Engineer prize as well!). Other finalists in this biennium's selection include Marion Bataille with the witty, typographic Jim, David A. Carter’s kinetic masterpiece Move!the exuberant archive‑as‑art Willis Wonderland (Mike Malkovas) and Peter Dahmen’s museum‑grade Pop Up Sculptures, which sit alongside two appearances from Rosston Meyer’s Poposition Press (The Keith Haring Pop‑Up Book, with Simon Arizpe, and the mesmerizing pull tabs in Pull Me Apart by Heather Clements). Cross‑cultural storytelling also shines in this set with Star Shen’s lyrical The City of Mountainsthe globe‑spanning anthology featured in Folk Tales of the World from Flexilibrum Books Lab (with Aleksey Zauer), and the ambitious science fiction adaptation of Three Body Problem (Guan Zhongping and Li Xiaoqing).
