Penguin UK’s Lovely Deluxe Limited Editions

Collecting Penguin Books
Penguin books are mostly known for their inexpensive paperbacks, which bring high-quality fiction and non-fiction to the mass market in an affordable way. Many people collect their prettily bound series, such as the clothbound classics, leatherbound classics, the children’s clothbound classics, or the hard-to-find Mr Boddington set. But not so many people know of their deluxe limited editions, available only through the Penguin UK Shop, with only 100 copies of each printed.
The Starless Sea Deluxe Limited Edition
The most recent release in this series is the deluxe limited edition of The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.
The boards are clothbound in deep blue and embossed with the symbols of the bee, key and sword in gold foil. The endpapers are marbled, the page edges are sprayed a dark, inky blue and there is a gold ribbon page marker.
The bespoke illustrated book jacket folds out cleverly into a poster, revealing a hidden underworld labyrinth. On the reverse of the poster are instructions to create your own origami star. All of this is tucked away in a dark blue slipcase embossed with the bee, key and sword symbols in gold foil.
Only 100 copies were made, individually numbered and signed by the author, and if you manage to snag one the release price is £300.00.

Go Set A Watchman Deluxe Limited Edition
Another deluxe limited edition still available is this special edition of Go Set A Watchman which was signed by the author, Harper Lee, before her death in 2016.
Again limited to only 100 copies, this edition is bound in tan goat leather with an inset, dark brown leather mockingbird design on the cover and silver embossing on the spine, together with gilded page edges, specially designed endpapers and a silk ribbon.
The book is presented in a green cloth-bound clamshell box with a clear foil train track design on the front, felt inner and blind embossing on the spine. Price at release was £2,000.
